A cleric has advised young people to avoid gambling, emphasizing its potential for causing financial troubles, addiction, and negative effects on mental health and relationships.
The founder of the High Tower Global Church, Prophet Olawale Ikotun, made this known this during a press conference at the church auditorium in Ipaja, Lagos, ahead of the church’s 15th anniversary, scheduled to begin today.
Ikotun expressed concern about the alarming rate of gambling. He lamented that the vice could take over the younger generations and many adults in the near future, as well as distract people from their relationship with God.
“This behaviour has caused many young people and even adults to become lazy. It is ungodly and leads to a disconnect in people’s relationship with God. People now gamble during church services, which is unacceptable in the eyes of God. This behaviour needs to be stopped in the house of God, and people should instead embrace hard work and avoid trying to take shortcuts,” he added.
The cleric noted that his ministry had supported and raised many youths, and he encouraged them to make better choices for their futures.
Speaking about the activities marking the 15th anniversary, Prophet Ikotun stated: “We will commence the anniversary, themed “Jump Start”, on Sunday, September 1 with a thanksgiving service featuring gospel minister, Tope Flourish.”
“The church leadership and members will visit charity homes to donate cash and food items. We will also provide free food to the residents. Prophetic Hour with gospel singer Bunmi Akinnanu will be held on September 3, while Worship Night with ministers Judy K and Peace Taiwo will take place on September 4.”
“Ministers Conference will be held on Thursday, followed by an anniversary revival on Friday featuring a ministration by Pastor Adebisi Abiola and a song ministration by Tope Alabi. On Saturday, there will be a prayer walk and a couples meeting. The anniversary thanksgiving with gospel singer Bidemi Olaoba will be held on September 8,” he added.
