Arcades were once all over Charlotte. More than 100 locations boasted opportunities to win big without driving out to one of North Carolina’s three casinos.

Their biggest attraction, fish table games, hosted gamblers around the clock. But when authorities determined the game in violation of state statutes, the once lively hubs started to go dark — for good?
