Two NJ Casino Bills Look to Make Massive Gambling Impact If Passed

New Jersey has long been the source of all things online gambling. Now, the state may be passing legislation allowing horse racing tracks to allow slots and NJ online casinos

Senate Concurrent Resolution 14

One of the bills, Senate Concurrent Resolution 14, would allow lawmakers to amend an existing law enabling horse racing tracks to offer slot machine gaming.

Additionally, there would be a shared revenue model, including the New Jersey state employee pension fund, Atlantic City casino operators, programs for the “recovery, stabilization, or improvement” of Atlantic City, and programs to assist thoroughbred and standardbred horsemen.

A107 Bill

The other, A107, would allow for racetracks to “be available” for online casino players to place digital wagers at Atlantic City casinos.

Both of these bills have been sent to the appropriate gambling subcommittees. Previously, bills similar to this were stuck in those subcommittees for two years.

However, these bills would benefit locations like Meadowlands, Monmouth Park, and Freehold Raceway. This bill could allow for additional in-person play. That said, the Atlantic City casinos have had a monopoly on casino play, which could be threatened by these bills passing.

Still, the casinos are included in the revenue-sharing model, which could ease some of that tension.

Now, we wait to see if these bills make it past the subcommittees.
