A clip of streamer Trainwreck allegedly bribing Twitch staff went viral only hours before the platform announced its new gambling ban.

Many Twitch streamers are caught in the midst of a social media storm for different reasons, from gambling addiction to alleged sexual assault and now allegations of bribery.

Tyler Niknam, aka Trainwreck, came under fire for paying two Twitch staff a total of $80,000 in crypto currency, in a clip that went viral on Twitter only a few hours before the company updated its gambling policy.

The clip is from one of Trainwreck’s streams from January 2022 and it shows him chatting to two Twitch staff accounts. During the stream, it appears he gives $50,000 to one account and later sends $30,000 to another.

After sharing the video on Twitter, user ostonox also posted a number of messages implying that Twitch has abstained from regulating gambling content creators because its employees have been getting their ‘entire salary in one bitcoin transaction.’

Ostonox is also HasanAbi’s editor, another popular Twitch streamer who often has online feuds with Trainwreck.

However, he seems to put the blame mostly on Twitch, which is responsible for making sure its policies apply to everyone and are followed through.

Trainwreck responded to the allegations while live on stream, along with xQc, who is his friend and is also known for betting large amounts of money during streams.

He revealed that neither of the staff work for the company anymore, though it’s not clear whether they were working for Twitch at the time of the stream.

To further justify his actions, he also claimed that if there was some sort of conspiracy there would be ‘hidden DMs’ and that he wouldn’t do it while live on stream, with over 60,000 viewers.

‘I did this live and casual… it was fun banter,’ Trainwreck added.

An ex-Twitch employee, djWHEAT, who was a member of the founding team also said that the incident is ‘disgusting’ but that he doesn’t put the blame Trainwreck.

He also pointed out that Twitch staff accepting money from creators is in violation of Amazon Business Conduct & Ethics Policy.

More fans and fellow streamers have criticised Trainwreck and Twitch since then, though the latter hasn’t issued an official statement regarding the situation yet.

Though Twitch did end up announcing a ban on certain online casino platforms and some chance-based gambling games, such as slots.
