Locks
MLB (0.75 Unit) Chicago Cubs/LA Angels Over 9 (-110; Odds via Caesars): 8:38 PM CT on MLB Network
This total inexplicably opened at just 8 runs, and was immediately bet up by smart money. They’re right, and I still like the over after it was steamed up, as this game has everything it needs to get over such a moderate number.
Two mid-level left-handed starters take the mound, and that should give the advantage to the offenses tonight. Drew Smyly for Chicago and Reid Detmers for LA have been average at best this season, and both the Cubs and Angels are in their preferred offensive splits against lefties. Both teams are top-10 or better in most offensive categories against lefties, so there should be plenty of scoring from the start.
Neither starter tends to go deep into games either, so that brings two bullpens into play that are showing troubles in their deeper metrics. There’s also a big wind blowing out to center at Angel Stadium tonight, and that should help this game easily get over the number.
