Three Paqueta yellow cards investigated in gambling probe including from match this season

Three Lucas Paqueta yellow cards are reportedly being investigated as part of an FA gambling probe.

One of those three is from West Ham‘s first Premier League game of the season, against Bournemouth, where Paqueta was booked in the 93rd minute.

The Mail report that the investigation ramped up after bets were placed on that yellow card in the closing stages of the match.

News broke last week that the 25-year-old was being investigated for alleged betting breaches.

The news also put an end to Man City’s pursuit of the Brazil international, having seen a £70million verbal bid rejected earlier this window.

The first yellow card being investigated is for a late challenge on John McGinn in West Ham’s 1-1 draw with Aston Villa on March 11.

The second was for a foul on Crysencio Summerville on May 21.

It has also been reported that the betting probe was sparked after West Ham’s own shirt sponsor, Betway, flagged suspicious betting patterns.

The suspicious betting patterns are reported to have emerged in Paqueta Island in Guanabara Bay, where the West Ham star grew up.

West Ham are believed to have asked for a postponement for a formal interview with Paqueta, due to take place on Monday, in order to give them more time to prepare.

The Brazilian started the Hammers’ 3-1 win over Chelsea on Sunday, scoring and getting a yellow card in the match.

Paqueta denies any wrongdoing and will speak to the FA as part of their investigation.
