Optimove, a startup based in Israel, has created an innovative AI system that helps online betting platforms detect bettors who may be at risk of developing a gambling obsession. By examining behavioral patterns characteristic of gambling addicts, such as the time of day they place bets, how long they spend on the site, and whether they engage in ‘chasing losses,’ the system assigns each user a rating based on their level of risk.

For those who are deemed to be at high risk, the marketing notifications they get on the sites will be tailored to encourage responsible gambling, including taking a break, lowering their wagers, or seeking help. The system also provides the betting company with alerts so that they can monitor and intervene when necessary.

Unlike conventional methods that rely on human monitoring and identification of at-risk cases, which are resource-intensive, Optimove’s algorithm gathers data from different sources like past transactions, games played, and interactions with customer service. This information is used to train the AI and improve its ability to identify users who may be at risk of developing a gambling addiction.

Already in use by major gaming corporations like Rush Street Interactive and BetMGM, Optimove’s AI solution represents a considerable step forward in responsible gambling practices. Jonathan Inbar, the Director of Strategic Services at Optimove, suggests that implementing the system can enhance the safety and fun of betting websites for all users. Furthermore, the technology can lower the harmful impacts of gambling addiction on both society and finances.
