The Cavs’ 2022-23 Futures Gambling Guide

Sports gambling is slated to be available in Ohio on January 1st, 2023, as we’ve written about. Just over three months away, it’s time for us to familiarize ourselves with futures bets available for the Cavaliers this upcoming season.

If you’re not aware, futures bets are wagers placed on events for the upcoming season, which can be tied to team success or individual player awards. Due to the acquisition of Donovan Mitchell, which you can listen to here, it’s a good time to examine which future bets are available to be bet on.

A couple of points before we dive in:

  1. All odds listed are the assumed payout if you were to wager $100 on the bet. For example, odds at +1,000 means the bettor wagers $100 to win $1,000.
  2. All odds are via the DraftKings sportsbook. Odds may slightly vary by sportsbook provider.

Team Futures Odds:

  • To win the NBA Championship: +3500. These are 13 teams ahead of the Cavaliers with “lower” odds, meaning, they are the 14th likeliest team to win the championship according to the latest odds-makers. The Celtics (+550) and Clippers (+600) have the lowest odds from their respective conferences.
  • To win the Eastern Conference: +1600. The Celtics (+260), Nets (+310), Bucks (+340), 76ers (+700), and Heat (+800) are all ahead of the Cavs to win the East.
  • To win the Central Division: +330. The Cavaliers have the second lowest odds to win the Central, behind the Bucks (-270).
  • Team total wins is 46.5. The money thus far is favoring the Cavaliers to win more than 46.5 games, as betting over 46.5 is -130. On the flip side, betting under 46.5 games will net you +105 odds.

Individual Player Futures Odds:

  • Regular season MVP: Donovan Mitchell (+8000), Evan Mobley (+25000), and Darius Garland (+25000). Luka Doncic has the lowest odds of all players listed (+425).
  • Most Improved Player: Darius Garland (+4000), Evan Mobley (+4500), Caris LeVert (+6000), and Jarrett Allen (+6000). Anthony Edwards has the lowest odds of all players listed (+1000).
  • Coach of the Year: JB Bickerstaff (+1400). Bickerstaff has the ninth-lowest odds in the league, with Ime Udoka (Celtics) sporting the lowest current odds (+650).
  • 6th Man of the Year: Kevin Love (+2500), Caris LeVert (+3000), and Cedi Osman (+20000). Jordan Poole (Warriors) has the lowest odds of all players listed (+450).
  • Defensive Player of the Year: Evan Mobley (+2000), Jarrett Allen (+3000), Ricky Rubio (+100000), and Darius Garland (+100000). I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t surprised those last two names are currently listed with defensive player of the year odds. Mobley and Allen are among the lowest 15 players in the league from an odds perspective, which should be a great thing for this Cavalier defense.

If you live in Ohio and want to place a futures bet ahead of the upcoming season, it is legal in Indiana, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Happy betting and may the odds be ever in your favor.
