A couple and their son hanged themselves at their home in Telangana’s Nizamabad district after they were unable to repay debts of Rs 30 lakh incurred by the son through online gambling. The incident occurred late on Thursday (October 3).

Those who died were identified as Ranganaveni Suresh (53), his wife Hemalatha (45) and their son Harish (22). According to sources, Harish was addicted to online mobile games during the Covid-19 pandemic and his addiction had led the family to have a debt of Rs 30 lakh.

The family sold off their agricultural land, but it was not enough to clear their debts. Unable to cope with mounting pressure, the victims took the extreme step.

Upon learning of the incident, police reached the spot, conducted a preliminary investigation and registered a case. The bodies were sent to Bodhan Area Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
