Tamil Nadu news highlights: The Tamil Nadu Assembly on Wednesday passed a bill to prohibit online gambling and regulate online games in the State, news agency PTI reported. Earlier this month, the state government had promulgated an ordinance to prohibit online gambling and regulate online games in the State and said an online gaming authority will be established to exercise powers conferred by this Ordinance. The Tamil Nadu Prohibition of online gambling and regulation of online games Act, 2022, will come into force on the date notified by the government.

Former Tamil Nadu chief minister and Leader of Opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami, along with other AIADMK leaders, were on Wednesday detained while holding a protest against their eviction from the state Assembly. The party had planned to commence a hunger strike at Valluvar Kottam in Chennai today but had failed to receive permission from the police. “This is a murder of democracy. We will protest until we get justice,” Palaniswami said.

On Tuesday, Edappadi K Palaniswami’s MLAs supporting him were evicted from Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly after they created a ruckus over seating arrangements during the second day of the ongoing session in Chennai Tuesday.
