Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prabhat Kumar held a crime review meeting at the District Police Office which was attended by City SP, K Vijay Shankar and officers in-charge of different police stations. He issued instructions to district police for better policing in the wake of a spate of crimes in the city in the past few weeks.

During the meeting, SSP reviewed the old as well as fresh cases and issued necessary directions and guidelines to the officers for prompt disposal of the under investigation cases, so that timely justice is delivered to the public on ground.

The main focus of the meeting was to do the investigation in a proper manner to improve the quality of investigation and rate of conviction as well.

During the meeting, Kumar shed light on all the aspects of investigation of heinous and special nature cases at length and instructed the officers to monitor the investigation at the level of investigator, supervising authority and accepting authority effectively to take the investigation of the case to its conclusion rightly.

Meanwhile, gambling has picked up ahead of Diwali in the city. People from upper strata of society are engaged in playing it in high-end hotels, resorts and individual houses while groups of gamblers can be seen engaged in the illegal activity openly in slum areas.

Unscrupulous elements in the hospitality sector, low-rung politicians and people with chequered history are organising gamble parties with heavy entry fees and even turning houses in residential sectors into a gambling den to escape attention of the authorities.

With Diwali on the cards, the police are geared up to bust the gambling dens, especially those which are organised by traders at their establishments or other safe places in the steel city. The action was planned as gambling is organised on and before Diwali in several places in the city every year.

Sleuths from the intelligence department have been instructed to collect information about places where organised gambling has been continuing for the last couple of years.

Revealing about the move, the official said that they would start raiding the places where gambing is organised. “We have decided to conduct raids at the public places like bus-stand, parks, empty houses or under-construction houses.  We will arrest those found indulged in the act and will prosecute them under Section 13 of the gambling act,” he said.

The official said those who organise the gambling if caught during the raids will be prosecuted under 3/4 of the Gambling Act and will get bail from the court only. He stated that the officers in-charge of the police stations have been instructed to check gambling in their respective areas.
