San Jose: Three arrested in connection to alleged underground gambling ring

SAN JOSE — Police arrested three people last week in connection to an illegal underground gambling house in San Jose that also yielded evidence of drug sales and illegally stored firearms, according to authorities.

After a monthslong investigation, police obtained warrants for the home, located in the 2800 block of Garden Avenue, authorities said in a news release Monday.

About 6:30 a.m. Thursday, San Jose police, working with the department’s MERGE unit, served warrants at the home. About 34 individuals were detained inside the home at the time of the search, police said. Three primary suspects, aged 51, 46 and 37, were arrested at the scene — authorities said they found two of the suspects hiding in a crawlspace.

In the search, police seized nine gambling machines, $2,075 in cash, multiple narcotics pipes, about 44 grams of what was suspected to be methamphetamine and multiple illegal guns.

The three individuals were arrested on suspicion of multiple firearm related charges, drug sales, conspiracy, maintaining and operating a drug house and operating an illegal gambling establishment. Seven others were arrested on outstanding warrants.
