Indianapolis Colts cornerback Isaiah Rodgers is among the next group of NFL players likely to be suspended for allegedly violating the league’s gambling policy.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the suspensions for Rodgers and other players is expected to be for the entire 2023 season.
This will be the second wave of gambling suspensions in the offseason. Five players, including four members of the Detroit Lions, were disciplined in April for violating the gambling policy.
Lions wide receivers Jameson Williams and Stanley Berryhill were suspended for the first six games of the 2023 season. Detroit wideout Quintez Cephus, safety C.J. Moore and Washington Commanders defensive end Shaka Toney received season-long suspensions and must apply for reinstatement after 2023.
ESPN’s Stephen Holder and David Purdum reported on June 5 Rodgers was being investigated by the NFL for a potential gambling policy violation.
“We are aware of the NFL’s investigation and will have no further comment at this time,” the Colts said in a statement. Rodgers tweeted about the situation, taking “full responsibility for my actions.”

The report from Holder and Purdum noted a sportsbook account was opened under the name of an associate of Rodgers, and “approximately 100 bets were placed on the account over an undisclosed amount of time, including on Colts games,” and most were in the range of $25-50 but at least one was in the low four figures.
The NFL first adopted a gambling policy for players and league personnel in 2018 in the wake of a Supreme Court ruling that struck down a federal law prohibiting state-authorized sports gambling.
Among the key rules in the policy is no betting on the NFL, don’t gamble at your team’s facility or at a team hotel traveling for road games and don’t have someone place a bet for you.
Rodgers was a sixth-round draft pick by the Colts in 2020. The 25-year-old has appeared in 45 games over the past three seasons.
