Problem Gambling Conference Brings Together Experts in Field - Milwaukee Community Journal

As part of its ongoing effort to increase awareness of gambling disorders, the Wisconsin Council on Problem Gambling (WCPG) is hosting the 25th Annual Wisconsin Council on Problem Gambling Statewide Conference, “Hats Off to 25 Years through Awareness, Education, and Prevention”, on

March 14th – 15th, 2024 (pre-conference March 13th)! It will be held at the Milwaukee Marriott West in Waukesha, WI. For most people, gambling is a fun form of entertainment. For others, however, gambling can be a problem that affects the gambler, his or her family and friends, and even the gambler’s workplace.

“Just to name a few of our presentations this year, we have Saul Malek who will explores the consequences of live sports betting with his keynote, “Take Me Out to the Inning.” Saul’s personal experience, research, and observations come together to create an engaging presentation that will benefit treatment providers, educators, and more. Mark Sanders will present, “The 10 Smartest Things Counselors and Programs Can Do to Promote Recovery”. This presentation will include 10 things you can do to help facilitate lasting recovery, Michael Goldman,  “Assessing Suicide Risk and Treating Depression for Compulsive Gamblers”.  In this presentation suicide and depression among compulsive gamblers will be explored. Suicide among this demographic is the highest of any other group.

The total continuing education units a conference attendee can earn is 21.50. The conference is designed for anyone concerned about problem gambling in Wisconsin, including criminal justice personnel, human resource professionals, mental health professionals, gaming industry personnel, clergy, problem gamblers, and their families and friends.”

This annual event provides connections to some of the leading experts in the problem gambling field. Conference speakers will cover a range of topics, including:

  • How to Supervise Gambling Counselors for Improved Outcomes

WCPG is a statewide organization that provides resources, public awareness and education on gambling disorders while maintaining strict neutrality on the issue of legalized gambling. The Wisconsin Council on Problem Gambling is funded by a public awareness grant from the State of Wisconsin and additional funding from donors, including Wisconsin Native American Tribes.
