The members of the Pro-Dravidian outfit, Thanthai Periyar Dravidian Kazhagam, assembled at Post Office HQ with packets of ashes to be mailed to Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi. This was done as a mark of protest against him for not giving assent to Bill banning online gambling.
Governor RN Ravi, after four months, returned the Bill banning online gambling reportedly questioning the legal competence of the State Assembly in passing such a Bill.
The state cabinet was immediately convened and the decision was taken to pass the Bill, after which it was again sent to Governor Ravi for his assent.
Meanwhile, TPDK cadres held a protest by sending ashes to the Governor, symbolically making him responsible for the 42 deaths that are connected to online gambling in Tamil Nadu.
Jana, a TPDK cadre, claimed that ashes from a few families of the 42 who died due to online gambling were mixed in the packets. “This is a protest against Governor Ravi, holding him responsible for their deaths,” stated Jana.
