A Labour senator who has called for a total ban on gambling advertising in Ireland has said that efforts are needed to break the ‘“normalisation” of gambling while watching sport.

Mark Wall, the Labour senator and party spokesman on sports, said that he welcomed reports that English Premier League clubs were considering banning gambling sponsors on the front of jerseys from the end of this season given how popular the league is in Ireland.
