Premier League clubs BAN gambling sponsors from the front of team shirts
  • The ban comes into place at the end of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign
  • Premier League teams can still pursue new deals before the end of that season
  • Kevin De Bruyne is crowned the BEST Premier League midfielder of all-time

Premier League clubs have collectively agreed to remove gambling sponsors from the front of their shirts on matchdays, becoming the first major league to do so.

Eight of the 20 clubs currently in the Premier League have shirts featuring such sponsorships, with their removal set to begin following the 2025-26 season.

Gambling partners for top-flight clubs are regulated and certified by the Gambling Commission, and abide by the rules of the Advertising Standards Authority.

The decision has been made in order to reduce the exposure of gambling advertising, though shirts will still be allowed to feature sponsorships on sleeves.

A statement from the English top-flight reads: ‘Premier League clubs have today collectively agreed to withdraw gambling sponsorship from the front of clubs’ matchday shirts, becoming the first sports league in the UK to take such a measure voluntarily in order to reduce gambling advertising.

‘The announcement follows an extensive consultation involving the League, its clubs and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport as part of the Government’s ongoing review of current gambling legislation.

‘The Premier League is also working with other sports on the development of a new code for responsible gambling sponsorship.

‘To assist clubs with their transition away from shirt-front gambling sponsorship, the collective agreement will begin at the end of the 2025-26 season.’

The gambling sponsorships for those eight clubs currently in the Premier League have an estimated value of £60million-per-year.

While the ban of these sponsorships comes into place in 2025-26, clubs will still be able to secure new deals before this cut-off date.

As well as on players’ sleeves, gambling sponsors may be shown on LED advertising.
