Police busts ‘Titli Kabutar’ gambling rackets, nabs 18

New Delhi: Several “Titli Kabutargambling rackets, which have become a cause for concern for law enforcement agencies and the general public in the recent past, have been busted in Delhi. Eighteen people have been apprehended, and substantial evidence, including roulette wheels, has been confiscated.
“This satta game is akin to roulette. There is a chart on the counter of the establishment, featuring illustrations of titli, bhanwara, diya, sun, and pigeon.The participants place their wagers on the image of their preference. The game proprietor draws a chit, and if the player’s chosen picture is revealed, they are awarded 10 times the amount of money wagered,” elucidated an officer.
The central district police arrested 13 gamblers recently. “Acting on a tip, a team, spearheaded by inspector Rohit Kumar, conducted a raid near Padam Singh Road and apprehended the accused. The perpetrators, ranging in age from 22 to 52, hail from Delhi, UP, Bihar, Uttarakhand and MP,” an officer said.
Police seized over Rs 1.2 lakh in cash, 10 mobile phones, 10 bundles of betting slips, two calculators, a multi-colour banner depicting butterflies and pigeons, and a roulette wheel from the location. The apprehended individuals were Depender, Tarun, Yogender, Suhel, Avinash, Manoj, Miraz Alam, Suraj, Vishal, Ashutosh Dubey, Jagdish, Pooran Chand and Sunil.
The south district police apprehended three gamblers, identified as Vinod Kumar, Ram Babu Pal and Raja Ram Shah. They were caught in the act with stake money amounting to Rs 19,500, along with 15 decks of playing cards and other paraphernalia.
In another case, the north district police arrested the kingpin of one of the Titli Kabutar gangs, identified as Sadiq. He was apprehended with stake money worth Rs 1,750, a diary, nine satta slips and other items. Meanwhile, the Shahdara police have arrested the kingpin of another such gang, Kamlesh.
