Police Arrest 142 Online Gambling Suspects in Past 2 Weeks

Jakarta. The National Police have arrested 142 suspects in a major crackdown on gambling websites over the past two weeks.

The extensive arrests were made as part of an ongoing investigation into 115 separate online gambling cases, National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko said on Wednesday.

Furthermore, the police have formally requested the Communication and Informatics Ministry to shut down or freeze 2,862 gambling websites.

“Between April 23 and May 6, we have handled 115 gambling cases and arrested 142 suspects,” Trunoyudo said at a news conference held at the police headquarters in Jakarta.

The spokesman hinted at plans to establish a task force against online gambling, but he refrained from providing further details.

He added that the police are continuously pursuing information technology updates to stay ahead of new challenges in the fight against online gambling.
