Members of Rapid Action Battalion arrested six people, including chief executive officer of “Ulka Games Limited,” on charge of siphoning off around Tk 200 crore abroad through online gambling.
The arrestees are Zamilur Rashid, the founder and CEO of “Ulka Games Limited”, Saimon Hossain, Ridwan Ahmed, Rakibul Alam, Muntakim Ahmed, and Qais Uddin Ahmed.
They were arrested during separate drives in Uttara and Mohakhali last night, Khandaker Al Moin, Rab’s Legal and Media wing director, told a press briefing at Rab media centre today.
During the initial interrogation, the arrestees admitted to sending crores of money abroad through online gambling, he said.
Zamilur contacted with Moonfrog Asia, which developed the “Teen Patti Gold” game in 2017 in a neighbouring country. Zamilur then got appointed as its Bangladesh representative in 2018.
In 2019, the took approval of a gaming development company and established “Ulka Games Limited” to spread the “Teen Patti Gold” and other online gambling games.
Although the journey of “Ulka Games” started for the purpose of gaming development, they were actually running online gambling and sending money abroad, the Rab official said.
