US President Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and US Vice-President JD Vance were locked in a series of tense exchanges at the White House- a week after the Ukrainian President said that his US counterpart was “living in a disinformation space” created by Russia.
At the Oval Office, where the two leaders met ahead of signing the resources deal which will give the United States access to rare-earth and other critical minerals in Ukraine, Donald Trump dressed down Zelenskyy and said that the latter is “gambling with World War Three”.

The deal is part of an overall plan to help Ukraine recover after a truce in the war with Russia.

What Happened During Trump- Zelenskyy Meet
Donald Trump told his Ukrainian counterpart that a truce with Russia is “fairly close” and that the deal allowing US to use Ukraine’s natural resources would be “very fair.”
The conversation escalated very quickly as Zelenskyy asked the US Vice-President if he’s been to Ukraine “to see our problems” to which JD Vance dismissively replied that he’s read about it and seen it.
The US will also eventually feel the consequences of the war, Zelenskyy retorted before being cut off abrasively by Donald Trump who said, “Don’t tell us what we’re going to feel. You’re in no position to dictate what we’re going to feel.”

Donald Trump claimed credit for the peace deal between Russia and Ukraine as he asserted, “If I didn’t align myself with both of them [Russia and Ukraine], you’d never have a deal. I’m not aligned with Putin, I’m not aligned with anybody. I’m aligned with the United States of America.”

The US President chided Zelenskyy as he said that the Ukrainian leader has “tremendous hate” for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“You want me to be tough, I can be tougher than any human being you’ve ever seen… but you’re never going to get a deal that way,” he said.

At the end of the meeting, the US President said that Zelenskyy has not been “very thankful” to him and the United States and that “this is going to make great television”.

Donald Trump said Zelenskyy can come back to the White House “when he is ready for peace,” after the heated exchange.
“We had a very meaningful meeting in the White House today. Much was learned that could never be understood without conversation under such fire and pressure. It’s amazing what comes out through emotion, and I have determined that President Zelenskyy is not ready for Peace if America is involved, because he feels our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations. I don’t want advantage, I want PEACE,” he wrote on Truth Social.
