Norway’s monopoly betting operator, Norsk Tipping, has stopped gambling advertising on Norwegian TV until further notice.
The country’s main broadcasters banned commercials featuring unlicensed operators. The Discovery Network had stopped ads for foreign gaming companies on its Norwegian channels, obeying the rules laid down by the Norwegian Media Authority.
Now Norsk Tipping has set out a number of other actions it is planning to reduce marketing, notably the reduction in spend and a ceasing of SMS messages that promote sports betting.
Said Norsk Tipping communications director Tonje Sagstuen: “When the illegal advertising is now mostly gone from Norwegian TV screens, we adapt our visibility to the new situation, as we always do.”
