The NFL Players Association sent out a memo to NFL agents on Monday with a warning about their clients using mobile gambling apps that could put them in violation of league rules, per The Athletic’s Kalyn Kahler.
After five NFL players got varying levels of suspensions for gambling infractions last month, the conversation has centered on what exactly NFL players can and cannot gamble on and what locations are off limits.
While it is not against league rules to bet on non-NFL sporting events, players are not permitted to do so while at a team facility.
The NFLPA said in the memo that the NFL was able to identify those who violated the league rules through the ability for gambling apps to track users by their locations and their gambling activity. FanDuel was mentioned by name in the memo.
The organization advises that “at no time should players open or use any mobile gambling app while at work.”

The memo also mentions players using a gambling app while traveling with an NFL team as a violation for the league’s policy.
As time goes on, there will likely be more to discuss on the ever-changing world of sports gambling and the NFL.
However, the NFLPA has officially clarified with its agents of what could get their athletes in trouble with the league with mobile apps.
