Days after an NBA betting scandal saw a player banned for life, the NFL reinstated a group of players who were suspended for a year due to gambling violations.
According to the league transaction wire, the NFL has ended year-long suspensions for four players who violated the NFL’s gambling policies. The group includes linebacker Rashod Berry, wide receiver Quintez Cephus, defensive back C.J. Moore, defensive tackle Demetrius Taylor and defensive end Shaka Toney.
Notably, Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Isaiah Rodgers was not among those who instated this week.
Rodgers, a former UMass football star, was suspended at the same time as Berry and Taylor. A former member of the Colts, Rodgers was cut at the same time as Berry when the suspensions came out. Rodgers was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles shortly after he was cut by the Colts.
John McMullen of Sports Illustrated reports that Rodgers was eligible for reinstatement after the end of the 2024 season, but his “status remains under review.”
As for the reinstated players, Berry, Cephus, Moore and Taylor remain free agents. Toney will head to the Washington Commanders roster.

Berry is a former member of the New England Patriots, landing in Foxborough as an undrafted free agent after the 2020 NFL Draft. He was cut at the end of training camp and spent the season on the practice squad. Berry was elevated to the active roster on multiple occasions, appearing in three games and finishing with one tackle.
Berry spent time with the Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars before signing with the Indianapolis Colts in 2023.
