The NFL could potentially bring down the swift hammer of justice on Indianapolis Colts cornerback Isaiah Rodgers Sr.
The NFL is reportedly investigating Rodgers for an alleged gambling scandal in which the Colts cornerback made bets not only at the team facility but on his own team.
If found guilty during the investigation, Rodgers could face a serious suspension, or worse: banishment from the NFL.
Mike Florio points out the NFL is authorized to banish a player from the league if he violates the NFL’s gambling policy.
In most cases, Rodgers would receive a one-year suspension. However, banishment could also be on the table.
If Rodgers did indeed bet on the Colts to lose his NFL career is likely over. The investigation will get to the bottom of this.
The bigger issue here is the growing influence of sports betting. More and more athletes appear to be taking advantage of technology to bet on sports games, whether it’s against the league’s rules or not. The NFL may use Rodgers as evidence the league doesn’t take this lightly. It can’t.
