As gambling’s global reach continues to grow, a new report by the Lancet is urging a public health-focused approach to counter gambling’s risks.
In response, New York State officials and industry leaders met Wednesday at Del Lago Casino, announcing measures to support responsible gaming, including expanded self-exclusion options and mandatory data reporting.
Robert Williams, executive director of the NYS Gaming Commission, said the state aims to protect residents without stifling economic benefits.
Starting Nov. 12, residents can opt to exclude themselves from all regulated gaming in New York, a move that aligns with recent limits on mobile sports advertising.
The partnership, which includes the Office of Addiction Services and Supports, hopes these steps will balance industry growth with the well-being of communities across the state.
