Nashik: The Nashik city police booked 11 people after they were found gambling in Mhasrul area of the city on Thursday.
The men were gambling with cards on an open plot near the house of one member from the group.
The articles the police seized from the gambling den comprise Rs 76 lakh cash, cellphones close to Rs 28 lakh and various two- and four-wheelers collectively worth Rs 29 lakh.
Police had acted under the guidance of senior inspector Pankaj Bhalerao.
The police later booked the people concerned under relevant sections of the Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act. The police said that such raids on gambling dens would be a regular feature of the city police.
Police officials regularly conduct raids on gambling dens as gambling is not only illegal but also becomes a spot of criminal activities.
Last year, the police raided two gambling dens near Peth Phata and in Gosavi Wadi and booked 42 people. They also seized around Rs 1.3 lakh from both locations. The police have appealed to the people to inform them about any illegal business being operated in their area.
In another raid last August, the police raided five gambling dens and seized cash and valuables worth Rs 50,000 from the spot. The raids were conducted at Nashik Road, Deolali Camp, Panchavati, Mumbai Naka and Ambad.
