As gambling among NFL players heats up, the league is cracking down.
Multiple NFL players are expected to receive season-long suspensions for violating the league’s policy on gambling, according to a report Wednesday. The league is expected to announce the suspensions this week.
One player expected to be among those suspended is Isaiah Rodgers, a cornerback and kick return specialist for the Indianapolis Colts. Rodgers reportedly was under investigation for “pervasive” gambling wagers, possibly including bets placed on Colts’ games. Rodgers seemed to acknowledge the violations, saying he takes “full responsibility” for his actions and was “willing to do whatever it takes to repair the situation.”
It’s unclear which players are being targeted in the latest investigation, but the report said a “handful” of players were facing suspensions.
The latest report of gambling violations and possible suspensions come just a few months after the league suspended five players for gambling violations. Detroit Lions’ 2022 first-round pick Jameson Williams was among five players suspended by the NFL in April for violating the league’s gambling policy.
Williams, a wide receiver, along with Lions’ wide receivers Stanley Berryhill and Quintez Cephus, safety C.J. Moore and Washington Commanders’ defensive end Shaka Toney all received suspensions of varying lengths by the league.
