MLB Player Who Was Suspended For Gambling Was Also Hilariously Bad At Gambling

On Monday, the Wall Street Journal reported that Major League Baseball is investigating San Diego Padres infielder Tucupita Marcano for violating the league’s gambling policy.

If you’re asking yourself “who is Tucupita Marcano?” that’s a fair question. After all Marcano is batting just .217 for his career.

Marcano was ruled permanently ineligible on Tuesday morning. But what’s even more amusing is the fact that he was apparently really, really bad at gambling despite having inside information.

MLB Player Tucapita Marcano Got Suspended Despite Being Terrible At Gambling

Major League Baseball posted a press release regarding the suspension, and the numbers weren’t almost unbelievable.

“Consistent with Marcano’s overall baseball betting activity, almost all of Marcano’s Pirates bets were on which Club (the Pirates or their opponent) would win the game or whether there would be more or less than a certain number of runs scored in the game,” the release states. “Ultimately, Marcano lost all of his parlays involving the Pirates and only won 4.3% of all of his MLB-related bets overall.”

You have inside information! How do you only with 4.3 percent of all your bets on THE LEAGUE YOU PLAY IN?!

I am far from a sharp when it comes to MLB betting. But I promise you, even with parlays, that I will win more than 4.3 percent of all my bets. And that’s without having the knowledge that you would think Marcano had considering he was ON THE TEAM HE WAS BETTING ON.

I don’t know whether I find Marcano’s lack of gambling success more hilarious or infuriating.

If you’re going to blow your opportunity to play Major League Baseball so that you can gamble, you should at least be good at it!

And look, in all seriousness, maybe the guy has a problem. If he does, I sincerely hope he’s able to get the help that he needs.

But that doesn’t mean that his decision, and his specific bets, were not impossibly stupid.

Do better, my man. For all of gamblers out here.
