Man, 29, Ends Life Over Online Gambling Debt | Chennai News - Times of India

Chennai: A man employed in a BPO killed himself at his house in Perumbakkam on Saturday night. It is suspected that he took the step after he lost money in online gambling.
Police said Gururajan, 29, a resident of Villupuram district, was employed at a BPO firm in Perungudi. He stayed in a rented accommodation with his friends.
On Saturday night, after making a phone call, Gururajan went to the balcony of his house and hanged himself.Hearing the noise, his roommates rushed to his help and brought him down. They took him to a nearby private hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
The police were informed about the incident. His parents and friends told police that Gururajan used to play online rummy and had lost a couple of lakhs in the process.
Preliminary police investigations revealed that over the past few months Gururajan was depressed over the loss of money. He had also requested 2 lakh from his girlfriend. He had made a video call to her before ending his life. Further investigation is on.
