A number of services in Ireland are experiencing technical difficulties with their systems due to global IT outages.
Globally, airlines, banks, telecoms companies, broadcasters and more are impacted, in an IT failing due to a faulty file from IT security company Crowdstrike, a popular protection service used by thousands of businesses and services.
Some offices across the country have experienced issues with Microsoft this morning, while RTÉ have said its newsroom was hit by some “intermittent internet outages.” Broadcasting has not been impacted.
Testing services have been halted. NCT Ireland said: “NCTS are currently experiencing disruption across our Test Centre and Contact Centre Network due to a Global IT outage which is out of our control.”
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
Gambling service Ladbrokes has also been affected. “You might have seen the news about the global technical issue affecting airlines, banks etc” they said via X.
“Unfortunately we’re experiencing this too. We’re working hard to resolve the issue but don’t know when it will be fixed. “Thanks for being so patient and apologies for the inconvenience.”
Crowdstrike company president George Kurtz said: “CrowdStrike is actively working with customers impacted by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts. Mac and Linux hosts are not impacted. This is not a security incident or cyberattack.”
“The issue has been identified, isolated and a fix has been deployed. We refer customers to the support portal for the latest updates and will continue to provide complete and continuous updates on our website.”
“We further recommend organizations ensure they’re communicating with CrowdStrike representatives through official channels. Our team is fully mobilized to ensure the security and stability of CrowdStrike customers.”
Banking customers concerned about disruption to services have been met with confirmation from Bank of Ireland and AIB that both are operating as normal.
