To the editor,
We recently watched an American news magazine show segment on gambling addiction in that country and the toll it’s taking, mostly on their young people.
Until then, I had never really noticed the amount of advertising we, here in B.C., see on television. I was shocked. Addiction is addiction, and we are seeing the devastating effects, here in Nanaimo, the province, and across the country of how harmful this is, every day.
It doesn’t make sense how we are trying to get enough money from our government to help people struggling with addiction, create more treatment centres and programs and yet, they turn around and justify or promote, or allow, these kind of gambling ads in our faces every day, mostly geared to our younger generation.
Mind boggling and very concerning.
