Treasurer Jim Chalmers is under pressure from his backbench to review the use of a lucrative taxpayer research scheme being used by gambling companies, including poker machine giant Aristocrat and bookmaker Tabcorp.

Labor backbencher Mike Freelander is urging the government to review the tax credits system after a report revealed gambling companies were receiving rebates for development related to poker machines and gaming apps.
