Kuching cops get power cut to seven businesses used as gambling dens

KUCHING (Feb 23): Police had the electricity supply to seven business premises here disconnected today after they were found to be running illegal gambling operations.

Sesco executed the disconnection of the electricity supply pursuant to the directives of the police under Section 21A of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 (Act 289).

“This is our 233rd operation together with Sesco in the Kuching district since 2021,” said Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah in a statement today.

He said residential homes found to be running illegal gambling operations also had their power supply cut.

This morning, members of the media were brought to a commercial area near Kubah Ria and Samariang Commercial Centre to witness the operation.

Under Section 21A of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 (Act 289), the reconnection of electricity supply to the affected premises must have written approval from the district police.
