This messy split doesn’t sound like it’s going to be resolved amicably anytime soon. Reality stars Kim Zolciak and Kroy Biermann’s divorce filing was made public in early May, and since then, more reports have come out about the issues the couple was supposedly facing, as well as the problems that they apparently had with each other. Now, Page Six has reported that Biermann claims Zolciak has a gambling problem that is so serious he wants her to undergo a psychological evaluation.
The request was made in relation to the pair’s battle for custody of their four children. For her part, Zolciak previously said in her own court filing that she’d like her ex to be drug tested. Read on to find out more about this complicated divorce.

Zolciak and Biermann first met at a 2010 charity event that was documented on Zolciak’s reality show The Real Housewives of Atlanta. The Bravo star and NFL player got married in November 2011, and they welcomed four children during their relationship: 11- year-old KJ, 10-year-old Kash, and nine-year-old twins Kaia and Kane. Zolciak also has two adult daughters—Brielle, 26, and Ariana, 21—who Biermann adopted in 2013 when they were still minors.
Zolciak left The Real Housewives of Atlanta as a starring cast member in 2013. She, Biermann, and their family went on to star in their own Bravo series, Don’t Be Tardy, which ran for eight seasons between 2012 and 2020. During this time, Biermann retired from professional football.
On May 8, news broke that Zolciak had filed for divorce from Biermann. TMZ obtained legal documents that showed the date of their separation as April 30. The filing noted that the marriage was “irretrievably broken with no hope of reconciliation.” Zolciak requested primary legal custody of their children and joint physical custody, as well as spousal support.
Soon after the divorce was made public, E! News reported that Biermann had filed his own request, seeking sole legal and physical custody of the four kids.

Biermann and Zolciak have reportedly faced various financial issues lately, and sources claim this was the reason for their breakup.
Hours prior to the divorce news coming out, TMZ reported that Zolciak and Biermann allegedly owe the IRS over $1 million in unpaid taxes, interest, and penalties for the tax years 2013, 2017, and 2018. They also reportedly owe the state of Georgia $15,000 from 2018.
This revelation came after a November 2022 report that Biermann and Zolciak’s Georgia home was in foreclosure. Zolciak denied this, but in February, People reported that the home was going up for auction. According to People, the foreclosure happened because couple had defaulted on a $1.65 million loan, but they were able to clear up the problem and the auction was canceled.
A source told People that financial woes were the reason for the split. “The money has been a huge issue,” a “friend” of Zolciak’s said. “The million-dollar tax [payment] was just way too much pressure on them.”
On May 22, Page Six reported that court documents show Biermann has requested that Zolciak undergo a psychological evaluation because she allegedly “spen[t] substantial time and marital funds on gambling and other games of chance.” Additionally, the papers claim that “this compulsion has financially devastated the parties.” According to his filing, Zolciak’s “time is so consumed with online gambling” that she cannot properly take care of their children.
The former NFL player has reportedly asked for Zolciak to be evaluated for depression, bipolar disorder, narcissistic personality disorder, and other mental health conditions.
The court documents filed by Biermann reportedly include checks and bank statements showing thousands of dollars in withdrawals as evidence of the alleged gambling problem.
On May 17, TMZ reported that Zolciak had filed documents requesting that Biermann be tested for drugs. She claimed that Biermann smoked marijuana, which made her concerned for the safety of their children. She reportedly asked that a judge order Biermann take a hair follicle drug test and require that he not cut his hair until the test is done.
