From 2011 to 2019, Kemba Walker played for the NBA team in Charlotte owned by Michael Jordan.
Taken ninth overall by the Bobcats in 2011, Walker had the fortune to be able to spend time with the GOAT both on and off the court.
One of those times, according to a story Kemba Walker shared with Carmelo Anthony and Kid Mero on the 7PM in Brooklyn podcast, took place at a casino in Monaco.
Walker was asked for a story that epitomized the best “This is Mike” moment he had with Michael Jordan. Kid Mero suggested a golf story, but Walker quickly shut that down.
“Nah, nah, I ain’t, that’s the one thing I learned, I ain’t gambling with him,” Walker replied. “I ain’t gonna lie! He different.
“I gambled with him when we was in Monaco one time. He too intense. He too intense. I’m good. … He throwing the money down, I can’t compete with him. And I didn’t even get paid at the time. I’m like, ‘I ain’t got it yet. I ain’t got it!’
“But he’s so dope though, like MJ, he, this is the greatest player ever. He is is second to none.
“He is such a good dude and my moment with him is when, this is my second year in the league, and we had a couple new players,” walker continued.
“I’m young, you know, we got a couple older guys. I don’t want to step on nobody toes so I’m kind of deferring a little bit I guess. He kind of realized it so he called me in the office, the training room, he like, ‘Yo man.’ He closed the door, I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’ So he looked me in my face, he like, ‘I didn’t bring you here to defer. I ain’t draft you, like I drafted you myself, I didn’t draft you here to defer or you know be the way you are. I want you to be aggressive I want you to play like how you played at UConn.’
“I’m like, ‘Bet.’ He just gave me the keys right there. I’m like, ‘That’s what I needed to hear, especially from you!’
“In my head, I ain’t gonna lie, I’m like, ‘I ain’t gonna let this man down.’”
