Is Australia moving fast enough on gambling reform? - ABC listen

In June this year, a parliamentary inquiry report recommended online gambling advertising be banned across all media within three years.

But six-months later – and despite mounting pressure from across the parliament, the Government is yet to announce what recommendations it will accept.

Guest:  Zoe Daniel, Independent MP

GOVERNMENT STATEMENT:

“The Albanese Government is firmly committed to minimising harms from online wagering.

“Our Government has delivered more in 18 months than the previous Coalition Government did in nine years.

“The Government is examining restrictions and engaging with stakeholders, including harm reduction advocates and health experts, as we develop our policy.

“The status quo of online wagering advertising is untenable and the Government will announce a comprehensive response in due course”.
