Safer Gambling Week launches once again this week, which is a cross-industry initiative to promote safer gambling in the UK and Ireland.
This yearβs Safer Gambling Week event runs from today until Sunday 19th October and will see the whole industry banding together in a coordinated effort to raise awareness of safer gambling, the tools that are available to help and sources of further advice and support.
This is the seventh year the Safer Gambling Week campaign kicks off to once again spread the message of safer gambling both online and in land-based venues to encourage the conversation of betting responsibly.
While offering and highlighting the tools that can be used to help with problem gambling, like self-exclusion and limits.
As well as providing resources to schools and universities, parents, industries and professionals.
It’s not just betting companies either but those directly involved, like football clubs, who will be sharing the message to encourage safer gambling.
Andrew Rhodes, Chief Executive of the Gambling Commission, said: βSafety should be at the heart of all gambling at all times.
βBut Safer Gambling Week affords the unique opportunity to draw even more attention to its importance.
βIt also provides the opportunity for operators to share best practice and ensure people in Britain are provided with the safest gambling opportunities in the world.β
The annual campaign will build on last yearβs successful event in October when around 200,000 accounts set deposit limits during the month.
Which was an increase of 12.5 per cent compared to the same month the previous year.
Meanwhile, 61 per cent of players setting deposit limits, did so for the first time.
The number of players actively using reality checks – on-screen alerts tracking how long customers are playing – grew by an astonishing 300 per cent.
Safer Gambling Week also smashed previous social media records, generating close to 30 million impressions across Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
