Mike Mondo was not aware that most Kenyan youth are hooked by gambling. The Classic 105 presenter asked listeners why they gambled.

“Its not even a joke, its not funny,” responded Mwalimu King’ang’i

A caller said he has lost money but is not willing to stop.

“Siweziacha. Hata leo asubuhi nimeshinda. But naezaambia vijana ukiingia inakukula inakumaliza kabisaa. Mimi pesa nimepoteza siwezihesabu, hatuhesabingi, tukianza kuhesabu tutakua wazimu.”

Another one said he had recently lost all his rent through gambling and did not know what to tell his landlord.

“Leo mmetufikia. Mwenye alinifunza nataka akuje aongee na landlord leo. Pesa ya rent imeenda, nilikua nimeekelea 10K na nilikua ninataka ifike 20K nilipe rent, saa hii sina rent. Mimi stress yenye niko nayo. Hii kitu serikali itoe bwana. Nasemanga nitatoka but nikipata hata mia tano najikuta nimerudi.”

Another caller narrated how a collegue of his lost his job by gambling with the profit.

“I have a collegue mwenye alipoteza kazi na hio gambling. Akawekelea mshahara yake, akapoteza. Akachukua pesa ya kampuni akawekelea, akapoteza.”
