Veteran actor Govind Namdev, known for his notable roles, recently emphasized the responsibility actors have towards their fans. He mentioned that actors like Hrithik Roshan, Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Akshay Kumar, who have large fan followings, should avoid endorsing pan masala and gambling apps.
In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Govind Namdev expressed his disappointment upon seeing Hrithik Roshan endorsing a pan masala brand. He revealed that he was a big fan of Hrithik but was shocked by the actor’s decision to promote such products. Govind stressed that it is an actor’s responsibility to guide the new generation in the right direction and not do anything that might mislead them. He questioned Hrithik’s choice, pointing out that promoting gutka and gambling encourages these behaviors among newcomers and youngsters.
Govind emphasized that when an actor endorses a product, it sends a message of approval and inspiration to the audience, thereby making it crucial for actors to act responsibly and avoid misguiding the public.
The senior actor stated that actors should refrain from participating in such ads because they are role models for people who look up to them, mimic them, and idolize them. Govind emphasized that actors should not lead their fans in the wrong direction, as it is the fans who have contributed to their success.
When asked if he had ever been offered to endorse such a product, Govind Namdev admitted that he had been and still regrets accepting the offer. He revealed that he had done an advertisement for pan masala brand nearly 20 years ago. At the time, the product was new, and his character from Rajkumar Santoshi’s “Lajja” had become very famous, along with his dialogue “Uth Jaayenge.”
Govind explained that, back then, he lacked awareness about an actor’s responsibilities and was new to the industry, which led him to accept the offer. He now considers that ad the worst part of his career and deeply regrets it, though he feels there’s no way to redeem himself.
