Giants QB rumors cause gambling chaos with Drake Maye, J.J. McCarthy

Speculation is running rampant that the Giants will draft a quarterback with their first pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Oddsmakers at DraftKings and BetMGM have now upgraded Big Blue’s odds of drafting a QB to +175, indicating that they are now heavily considering drafting a new quarterback, whether that be via trade or at pick No. 6.

Wide receiver is still favored as the first player drafted by the Giants at -225 with offensive line a distant third at +950.

However, after weeks of reports linking the Giants to Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy, the rumor mill has shifted in recent days.

Multiple reporters have insisted that the Giants are now looking to move up for North Carolina’s Drake Maye, potentially in a trade with the Patriots.

NFL analyst Daniel Jeremiah said, “I don’t view [the Giants] as a JJ McCarthy team,” while Albert Breer agreed with that statement.

FanDuel posts that the Giants are +450 to draft McCarthy, with others are slightly more bullish on him being a Giant at +275.

Using FanDuel’s McCarthy draft pick odds and some fancy math skills, you can deduce that the Giants’ odds of drafting Maye could be the same as McCarthy’s +450 on FanDuel.

If you want to stick with BetMGM and DraftKings’ projections, the Giants would be roughly +900 to grab Maye.

Of course, a Maye pick would likely need to be accompanied by a trade to get up to No. 3 overall and grab the 21-year-old.

In terms of reports that are fueling the steam of the Giants to draft a quarterback, ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reported that Big Blue is looking to trade up with the belief that it is for Maye.

Dan Graziano also mentioned that “The Giants’ guy is Maye” on Wednesday.

Meanwhile the NFL Network’s Peter Schrager mentioned similar sentiments that the Giants would look to get up from No. 6 to get Maye.

“I think Drake Maye goes at No. 3, and I’m hearing that the Vikings and Giants are trying to get up,” Schrager said on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday afternoon.

The Minnesota Vikings have pick Nos. 11 and 23 that they could pair with a future first-rounder, but Schrager reported that for the Patriots to make a move, they would have to be sure that McCarthy would be sitting there at 11.

Schrager mentions that the Patriots would be playing a “dangerous game” by doing so, making the Giants pick at No. 6 all the more enticing if it means they can snag McCarthy and more draft picks.

Maye’s odds are off the board everywhere you look for betting purposes, representing some hesitancy in putting a price on where he will land.

Daniel Jones, who currently sits atop the Giants depth chart, is able to be moved after this upcoming season when his contract is no longer fully guaranteed.
