In their recent op-ed, “N.J. sports bettors need more protection,” Martin Lycka and William J. Pascrell III proclaim, “Let’s be clear: Legalizing and regulating sports betting in New Jersey has benefitted society.”
I almost fell out of my chair laughing at this declaration in their manifesto. I don’t see the benefit. I certainly don’t feel it. Gambling advertising has crowded out just about every other area of advertisement on sports telecasts, and during broadcasts, announcers sometimes update the odds.
