Gambling den of infamous Babu Nadar raided in Kopri area of Thane | Thane News - Times of India

THANE: The city crime branch busted an illegal gambling den which operated in the Kopri area and detained 43 persons and seized Rs 6.43 lakh from their possession.
The police said that the gambling den is owned by one Babu Nadar and was operational in the locality for a very long time, said a senior police officer.
The officer said on Tuesday at around 9 pm, the sleuths of crime branch from the four crime branch units jointly raided the premises in the Kopri area in which 43 persons were rounded up by the sleuths, said Punjabrao Ugale, the additional commissioner of police (crime).
The raiding party found that the accused were playing a Teen Patti game and among the detainees were the club’s Manager, Sandeep Patil who was operating on the behalf of its owner, Babu Nadar.
During the raid, a substantial amount of Rs. 6.43 lakh was seized from the individuals involved in the illicit gambling activities, said Deputy Commissioner of crime, Shivraj Patil.
The accused were issued with the notices under relevant sections of the act, the officer added that a case has been registered at the Kopri police station under the various sections of the Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act.
