Gambling accused dies in Kuvadva police station

Rajkot: A 58-year-old man arrested allegedly for gambling died after collapsing in the investigation room of Kuvadva police station on Wednesday. His family members alleged that Jayanti Agesaniya died due to custodial torture.
At around 11pm on Tuesday, the police raided a spot in Gauridad village and arrested four people. Of them was Agesaniya, who fainted in the investigation room at around 2.15 am on Wednesday. The police shifted him to the civil hospital in 108 ambulance but he died during treatment an hour later.
Agesaniya’s family members created an uproar at the police station, alleging that Agesaniya was mercilessly beaten by the cops and there were injury marks on his body. It was only after assurance from senior cops that they accepted his body.
Manoj Sharma, assistant commissioner of police, said, “The exact reason for his death will be known only after the forensic postmortem by a doctors’ panel. We are also gathering the CCTV footage of the police station.”
During the raid, police seized Rs 64,800 cash out of which Rs 52,800 was found in Agensaniya’s pocket.
Police said he was earlier booked under Arms Act.
