Jameson Williams will miss the first the six games of the regular season along Detroit Lions teammate Stanley Berryhill for mobile betting at the teams facility, according to ESPN.
Williams played at Ohio State in 2019 and 2020 before transferring to Alabama in 2021. He was drafted by the Lions in 2022.
His representation, Alliance Sports, release a statement on Friday.
“Jameson takes full responsibility for his actions and is very apologetic to the NFL, his teammates and the fans and city of Detroit,” Alliance Sports said. “However, it is important to note that Jameson’s violation was not for betting on football but rather due to a technical rule regarding the actual location in which the online bet was placed — and which would otherwise be allowed by the NFL outside of the club’s facility. Jameson would never intentionally jeopardize the integrity of the game he loves so much and looks forward to getting back to his team as soon as possible.”
Both Williams and Berryhill are eligible to participate in all offseason and preseason activities, including preseason games.
The suspension will take effect at the final roster cutdown.

Three other players have been suspended indefinitely. Quintez Cephus and C.J. Moore of the Detroit Lions and Shaka Toney of the Washington Commanders are suspended through the 2023 season for betting on NFL games during the 2022 season, according to the league.
The players may petition for reinstatement at the end of the 2023 season.
