FBI, ICE help police seize over 40 electronic gambling machines in Monticello

MONTICELLO, Ky. (FOX 56) — Search warrants executed by more than 20 law enforcement officers resulted in a pair of men being arrested and more than 40 illegal gambling machines being confiscated.

According to the Monticello Police Department, Lucky 7 Smoke & Vape in the Walmart Plaza and Bootlegger Wine & Spirits on West Columbia Avenue were searched. The Valero gas station on North Main Street and Hick’s Grocery store on Kentucky Highway 90 in the Frazier community were also searched.

An arrest citation showed that the businesses were searched Wednesday afternoon.

The citation noted that, on Tuesday, two confidential informants working with Monticello PD entered one of the businesses and played on numerous machines. Both were reportedly paid cash for their winning tickets, leading to the search warrants being obtained.

After the businesses were searched, the police said they arrested Jaimin Patel, 25, and Obula Reddy, 25, and booked them into the Wayne County Detention Center on numerous charges, including:

  • First-degree promoting gambling

  • Possession of gambling devices

  • Permitting gambling

  • Possession of gambling records

The police confirmed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the FBI, and numerous city, county, and state-level agencies assisted them. Additional arrests are expected.
