Expansion plans for Gloucester gambling centre

Plans to expand an adult gaming centre in Gloucester city centre and create a flat above it have been revealed.

The owners of Be Lucky at 27 Westgate Street want to take over the vacant shop next door and create one larger unit.

It said the empty shop is “harming the health of the centre” and the changes will be positive for the city.

iLudo Limited has applied to the council for permission to knock through the wall to 25 Westgate Street and convert the upper three floors into a flat with a rear roof terrace.

It also wants to install new illuminated signs on the outside of the building.

The empty unit was formerly home to Bizarre tattoo parlour but has been empty for 20 months since the business closed in November 2022.

A statement by Pegasus Group on behalf of the applicant said: “There is a high level of vacancy within the Westgate Street Primary Shopping Frontage that the application site forms part of, with 15 units (17%) remaining vacant as of January 2024.

“This causes significant harm to the vitality and viability of the city centre, making it appear unhealthy, dilapidated and quiet, with a poor shopping offer.

“However, the proposed AGC amalgamation will help mitigate this harm, and it has already

been demonstrated through the current permission for the existing AGC at No.27 that it is a

suitable city centre use that contributes positively to its vitality and viability.”

The council id due to make a decision by September 24.
