After waiting for a chance to play in the NFL again and seeing others in the same boat as him return to the league, Eagles cornerback Isaiah Rodgers Sr. is officially allowed to be with his new team.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the NFL officially reinstated Rodgers Tuesday, paving the way for him to take part in the Eagles’ offseason workouts immediately. Rodgers had been suspended indefinitely in June 2023 as a member of the Indianapolis Colts for violating the league’s gambling policy by betting at an NFL facility and placing wagers involving the Colts. After the suspension, the Colts released him, and the Eagles signed him to a one-year, $1.01 million contract.
Rodgers welcomed the news on his reinstatement Tuesday by posting a video of himself walking into his house with an Eagles jacket on to social media sites, saying one phrase.
“I’m back,” Rodgers said.

Rodgers was not among the first four players to be reinstated because of gambling-related infractions, leaving questions as to his status for the next couple of months. However, a source told NJ Advance Media last week that Rodgers’s status was still “under review,” and the door was still open for him to return, which eventually happened.
Coverage-wise, according to Pro Football Reference, Rodgers allowed a completion 58.6% of the passes thrown in his direction (17 of 29), allowing 11.3 yards per completion, 87 air yards, and three touchdowns. Rodgers also did a decent job stopping the run and tackling, missing just one.
His addition to the secondary creates several spots for competition in two areas. Among outside cornerbacks, Darius Slay and James Bradberry are the starters, but Rodgers has primarily played outside for most of his career, meaning he, Kelee Ringo, and Eli Ricks would battle for playing time. Rodgers could also move into the slot, pitting him against longtime nickel cornerback Avonte Maddox for the role.
