Jakarta. Political analyst from Al Azhar University Indonesia Ujang Komarudin criticized Adang Daradjatun, Chair of the DPR Ethics Council (MKD), for not disclosing the names of lawmakers involved in online gambling, suggesting it highlights flaws in MKD’s ethics enforcement.
“The MKD’s internal ethics process is ineffective as they handle cases involving their own members, regardless of faction. Harsh sanctions on colleagues are unlikely, and penalties, when imposed, are often lenient,” Ujang told Beritasatu.com on Wednesday.
He suggested evaluating the MKD and including external experts to ensure the effective resolution of ethical issues within the House of Representatives (DPR).
“The MKD shouldn’t consist solely of DPR members, as this risks mutual protection rather than accountability,” he added.

Ujang urged bold police action against DPR members identified in online gambling investigations by the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK).
“PPATK should courageously disclose their findings and enforce strict legal sanctions. Failure risks public distrust,” he emphasized.
Criminal law expert from Trisakti University Abdul Fickar Hadjar echoed concerns, advocating for criminal proceedings post-ethical review.
“Upon ethical determination, privacy protections remain until announced. Subsequent criminal prosecution is essential,” Abdul Fickar told Beritasatu.com.
Adang Daradjatun disclosed that two DPR members and 58 staff were linked to online gambling, withholding their names, contrasting DPR Speaker Puan Maharani’s call for transparency.
In a recent briefing, PPATK Head Ivan Yustiavandana reported that 1,000 DPR and DPRD members were flagged for online gambling, totaling Rp 25 billion in transactions.
