Delhi Police nabbed a man who robbed a jewellery store at gunpoint, with a toy gun, to settle debts he had accrued due to his addiction to online gambling. The accused, 36-year-old Rinku Jindal was nabbed on Thursday, August 25.
On August 13, at about 1 pm, when Anurag Garg, the owner of a jewellery store, and his servant were present in their shop, the accused, Rinku Jindal, had covered his face with a handkerchief and robbed approximately ten gold chains and Rs 20,000 at gunpoint and fled from the spot.
Upon analysing the CCTV footage, he was seen crossing the road and taking an e-rickshaw. However, the police team could not track him completely as he had disappeared in traffic. They found that he was taking a plastic bag in his left hand and a pistol in his right hand.
Officials discovered the name of a Saket-based firm was written on the plastic bag. The team started working in the surrounding areas of both schools through local intelligence to find any suspects.
JAILED IN 2019 FOR BANK ROBBERY
After almost a week of continuous efforts, for continuous 6-7 days, police began suspecting that the accused was Rinku Jindal, a resident of Ambedkar Nagar, Shalimar Bagh. He had been arrested previously on March 2, 2019, when he robbed a bank in Prashant Vihar.
He was released on December 30, 2019. Rinku Jindal reportedly had no source of income but was addicted to online gambling. On Thursday, August 25, he was apprehended by a team of Special Staff from Haiderpur, Shalimar Bagh.
Seven gold chains he had stolen were recovered from his possession. He had mortgaged one chain weighing 76 grams and taken a loan of Rs 2,60,000.
He had already lost Rs 1,50,000 in online gambling and the remaining amount of Rs 90,000 was also been recovered from his possession. The clothes and shoes worn by him and the toy pistol used during the incident have also been recovered.
